Academic Music Director - Silke Löhr

Silke Löhr is the Academic Music Director (AMD) of the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf and the conductor of the Orchestra and the Choir of the University. She studied Music and Mathematics in Cologne and Orchestra Management in Utrecht (Netherlands), where she passed her exams with honours.

She complemented her education through master courses with Kurt Masur, Peter Eötvös, Jorma Panula, Helmuth Rilling und Eric Ericson as well as attending master classes held by Sir Simon Rattle. In addition, she was given support by the conductor’s panel of the Deutscher Musikrat.

From 2003 to 2005 she assisted the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest Holland at the Dutch radio broadcast in Hilversum. In 1999/2000 she conducted many concerts with the Bergische Symphoniker as part of her scholarship from the Orchesterakademie.

Among her engagements Silke Löhr has conducted the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, the WDR Sinfonieorchester Cologne, the Radio Kamer Orkest and the Radio Symfonie Orkest of the Dutch Radio, the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, the Musikfabrik NRW and the Oldenburgische Staatstheater as well as the Komische Oper Berlin.

In 1999 she was awarded the most promising prize for Music given by the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
